Audience Outlook Monitor’s Membership and Affiliations Survey

Discover What Your Audiences Value—and Shape the Future of Membership

The League of American Orchestras invites its member orchestras to participate in a significant new research opportunity: the Membership and Affiliations Survey, developed by the international arts consultancy WolfBrown.

Whether you’re actively testing new engagement models or just beginning to explore alternatives to traditional subscriptions and donations, the study will offer clear, actionable insights to help you grow lasting, reciprocal relationships with a broader spectrum of your community.

Why Participate in the Membership and Affiliations Survey?

This study will help your orchestra uncover what today’s ticket buyers are looking for in membership and affiliation opportunities, especially those who attend infrequently but want to stay connected to your mission. You’ll receive practical guidance on how to broaden engagement and strengthen relationships across your audience base.

Participation benefits include:

  • Insights into demand for different types of memberships, ticket bundles/credits, and various group affiliations, preference for monthly versus annual payments, value attached to various transactional and experiential benefits, and numerous other topics
  • Opportunities to explore new, mission-aligned engagement models beyond traditional ticket packages
  • Benchmark findings for your patrons against peer orchestras to identify national trends
  • Tailored findings to support your marketing, development, and audience strategies

Participation is open to all League member Group 1-8 orchestras at special discount prices, and results will be relevant and applicable to orchestras of all sizes.

Cost to participate:

  • Group 1 orchestras: $1,950
  • Group 2 orchestras: $1,650
  • Group 3 orchestras: $1,350
  • Group 4 orchestras: $1,050
  • Group 5 orchestras: $750
  • Group 6 orchestras: $450
  • Group 7 and 8 orchestras: $250

To participate, orchestras should have a minimum email list size of 1,000.

To learn more about this opportunity please register for the informational session on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 2:00-2:45pm Eastern. If you’re unavailable at that time, register anyway to receive a link to the session recording afterwards.

The deadline for registration is Friday, September 12.

If you are ready to commit to joining the cohort, use this special registration link for League members.

Research partnerships like this help us bring you additional opportunities to take part in orchestra-specific research that goes beyond the surveys and research projects run by the League itself. In this case, our collaboration with WolfBrown creates a new opportunity to look beyond the numbers and explore the actual experiences and perspectives of audience members.
