The League of American Orchestras believes that the long-term artistic and institutional health of our nation’s orchestras is dependent upon their ability to engage in and sustain a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. As a national service organization for orchestras, the League is committed to examining our own practices and holding ourselves accountable in our efforts to use every available channel to elevate EDI principles to the highest priority in the field.

The League’s official Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+) affinity group is open to all members to self-identify and join.

From a low starting point, BIPOC representation among top executives increased three-fold between 2014 and 2024. Women and non-binary individuals’ representation almost mirrored the U.S. population throughout the decade, but was highest within smaller to medium budget organizations.
