Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee of the League’s Board of Directors

The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee of the League of American Orchestras Board of Directors is a dedicated and highly engaged group of board members who meet on a quarterly basis to discuss directions and areas of focus for the League’s EDI work.  The committee focuses on implementing inclusive best practices within the League Board. It also partners with the Staff Equity Team on inclusive best practices within the organization itself, and advises on the work the League does on behalf of its membership.  The committee’s has a BIPOC Caucus that informs the Committee’s conversations while also building community and solidarity among Committee members who self-identify as people of color.  In addition, committee members participate in regular EDI discussions inspired by relevant articles, books, and films at the League board’s Bi-Monthly EDI Media Club.

Committee members’ voices shaped the League’s recent statements on Racial Discrimination and Anti-Asian Violence, and continue to be significant in influencing EDI discourse across the field. Read EDI Committee Chair Aaron Flagg’s analysis of the history of anti-Black racism in the orchestra field (PDF), and the Committee’s statement of policy (PDF).
