NEA Grants Support 41 Orchestra Projects in Second Round of FY20 Funding

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has awarded 41 direct grants to orchestral projects through its FY20 Art Works Part 2 grant category, totaling $867,000 in funding, as well almost two dozen grants to related projects. In all, the Endowment awarded more than 1,000 grants totaling $25,334,900 through Art Works Part 2, as well as $3.643 million in Our Town awards and $780,000 in research grants.

Conference 2020: Finale with Valerie Coleman

Iconic flutist and composer Valerie Coleman shared inspiration and innovation for hope, harmony, and unity as we engage our communities. Through the lens of her own journey with music, she reflected on how artists address our shared humanity and the relationship of the arts to where we are today as a society. We also awarded the Gold Baton, the League’s highest honor.

Conference 2020 – Roadmap to Reopening: How We Will Gather and Bring People Back

The decisions as to when and how orchestra musicians will gather again – in rehearsal, for performances, and in smaller groups and large ones – are informed first and foremost by the health and safety of all participants. Musicians will come together to rehearse before doors are opened to concert halls and other public spaces, and the use of varied musical instruments has unique implications.

Conference 2020: Frameworks and Faultless Failures

Topics to include audience development, lessons learned from failed ideas, and a presentation on a messaging framework that helped align the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s sales messaging with broad-based fundraising, patron stewardship, storytelling, and communications.
