The League of American Orchestras’ pioneering Inclusive Stages program will launch into a full three year cycle, following a successful pilot year in 2023-24. Made possible by the Sakana Foundation, the program is aimed at increasing racial diversity among musicians in American orchestras.
The Orchestra Repertoire Report from the Institute for Composer Diversity, produced in partnership with the League of American Orchestras, examines the programming of BIPOC, women, non-binary and living composers by U.S. orchestras.

Two researchers from Slover Linett at NORC, Dr. Tanya Treptow and Dr. Michelle Ernst, shared key findings from their recent in-depth study, sponsored by Classical KING FM, identifying actions the classical music sector can take to engage potential new audience members of color. Three leaders and changemakers—Dr. Mieko Hatano, Jennifer Arnold, and Emilio Alvarez—reflected on the findings and have a candid conversation about how to create a more inclusive experience for orchestra audiences.
For orchestras to build vibrant and sustainable futures, we must grow our communities of engagement and support. Traditional tools for achieving this include audience development, artistic planning, community engagement, civic engagement, fundraising, and education. At their core, these tools all contribute to the aspirational goal of meaning more to more people and they are most powerful when used in combination.

Alan Mason has been elected Chair of the League of American Orchestras’ Board of Directors, the League has announced. The California-based finance executive and musician recently retired as a Managing Director at BlackRock and is the Prior President of the Association of California Symphony Orchestras Board. Mason currently serves as a board member of the Monterey Symphony and is a prior board member of the Oakland Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra.
