The League of American Orchestras’ Orchestra Intensives are professional development programs designed to build skills and knowledge around specific roles in orchestra administration. The first in the series, the Orchestra Personnel Management Intensive, will take place in Bloomington, IN in March 2026. This will be followed by an Artistic Administrators Intensive in Fall 2026 and an Operations Intensive in Spring 2027. The program is made possible by a generous grant from The Dr. M. Lee Pearce Foundation, Inc.
These new programs will take a deep dive into specialized career paths, narrowing the focus and allowing an in-depth approach. The Intensives are geared to people new to and interested in advancing in their careers in orchestra management, especially managers in smaller-budget orchestras, staff in larger-budget orchestras, and those interested in pursuing an orchestra administrative career. Orchestra Intensives will sit alongside the longstanding and highly regarded Essentials of Orchestra Management program as the League’s major investment in professional development for the orchestra field.
Who is eligible to apply?
The Orchestra Intensives are geared to people new to and interested in advancing in orchestra-specific career positions: personnel management (March 2026), artistic administration (Fall 2026), and operations management (2027). Applicants are encouraged from staff at orchestras of all budget sizes and from those interested in pursuing administrative career in orchestras.
Up to 20 participants will be selected based on demonstrated experience, career potential, commitment to orchestra personnel management, and motivation and goals for participating in this professional development program. The League especially invites applicants from backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in the orchestral field. All program applicants will receive a one-year professional membership to the League.
