Conference 2023: Pathways to Equitable and Inclusive Orchestras
Speaker(s): Heather Briere, Director, Learning and Leadership Programs, League of American Orchestras; Harold Brown, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra; Helen Cha-Pyo, Artistic Director & Principal Conductor, New Jersey Youth Symphony / Wharton Arts; Marianne Rice, Lory Doolittle Endowed Vice President/Music Education & DEI Initiatives, Jacksonville Symphony; Dana Stone, Executive Director, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra
Since 2019, the League has awarded 65 Catalyst Fund grants to U.S orchestras to advance their understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), encourage effective practice, and transform organizational culture. During this session, learn about their on-the-ground experiences of working towards becoming more equitable and inclusive organizations. Grantee orchestras will reveal the successes, challenges, and strategies vital to their progress. Participants will also hear from League program staff and consultants who have supported orchestras in this process. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, expand your own EDI network, and learn about League resources available to you.
