Conference 2020 – Addressing Gender Equity On and Off the Stage
Speakers: Erin Hannigan, Principal Oboe, Dallas Symphony Orchestra; Kim Noltemy, President and CEO, Dallas Symphony Orchestra; Sheila Williams, Board Member, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Moderator: Pratichi Shah, CEO, Flourish Talent Management Solutions, LLC
While gender representation in the orchestral field has diversified both onstage and offstage recently, the challenge of creating truly inclusive and equitable environments remains. Salary parity, promotion and tenure, and interpersonal treatment are all issues in which gender inequity continues to manifest. Many institutions have made great strides, but representation is not enough.
Through a dynamic conversation featuring orchestral board, staff, and musicians, learn more about the professional experiences of people who identify as women and non-binary. Panelists also shared their perspective on actions the field can take to address gender inequity at their own institutions along with strategies that can help the field continue to move beyond representation and toward equity.
