Podcasts: it seems like everyone has one. So goes the jibe about the medium and with some 3,000 new podcasts created each month, that might not feel far off.
But its just as fair to say that everyone is listening to podcasts, too. In april, edison research/triton digital reported that an estimated one in five americans listen to podcasts weekly, a figure that has more than doubled in the last five years, and 41 percent of respondents reported listening to more podcasts than they had the year prior. Though listenership increased across demographics, notably, americans ages 12 to 24 saw the greatest increase. The most popular topic among those surveyed, besting even news and current affairs? Music.
