Policy Updates for Nonprofits Self-Insuring for Unemployment Benefits
Last week, the Protecting Nonprofits from Catastrophic Cash Flow Strain Act was introduced by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Tim Scott (R-SC) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) to help relieve burdens on orchestras and other nonprofits that self-insure for unemployment benefits.

Safety First
Orchestras are adopting new health protocols to keep everyone safe for the return of in-person concerts this fall. The emergence of the Delta variant and shifting COVID-19 infection rates mean that proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test, plus masking and social distancing, are being implemented for audiences, musicians, and staff alike. Actions vary from orchestra to orchestra, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. How is everyone coping?

International Coalition of Performing Arts Organizations Aerosol Study
The third round of preliminary results from the Performing Arts Aerosol Study have been released. Key findings indicate that wearing an appropriate mask and using recommended bell covers can decrease aerosol emissions from between 60 to 90 percent when playing wind instruments, and that using plexiglass partitions can interfere with HVAC systems in rooms.
