Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Data Hub
Regardless of our varying personal experiences and perspectives, most of us share a vision for a country where everyone, no matter their background, has a fair chance at success. We also recognize that when people from diverse backgrounds work together our organizations thrive, and our art form becomes richer and more vibrant.
Since 2016, the League has been tracking racial, ethnic, and gender metrics to understand where progress towards racial/ethnic and gender diversity is happening—and where it is not. Through its collective efforts, the orchestra field diversified its repertoire in the post-pandemic years and has made sustained improvements to the diversity of its conductors. However, significant gaps remain in many other orchestra roles, particularly within larger budget organizations.
Ongoing tracking is essential as we strive to build an orchestra field that is fair, accessible, and welcoming to all. The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Data Hub provides demographic insights generated by the League, along with research from our partners: Accordant Advisors, the Institute for Composer Diversity, and TRG Arts. Visit our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how this data is analyzed, the significance of the metrics we report on, and the steps orchestras across the U.S. are taking to create meaningful change.
The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Data Hub is made possible by generous grants from the Mellon Foundation, The Amphion Foundation, and The Aaron Copland Fund for Music, as well as by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
