Inclusive Stages Info Session

Register

August 22, 2023

3:00pm Eastern/Noon Pacific

Join us for a free information session to learn about our new Inclusive Stages initiative. The goal of Inclusive Stages, made possible by a generous grant from the Sakana Foundation, is to increase the racial diversity of musicians in American professional and community orchestras.

Inclusive Stages opportunities include:

  • Coalition Building – Beginning this Fall, we will gather a group of orchestras who are poised to take action and want to work collectively and collaboratively. The coalition will have two virtual facilitated meetings and one in-person facilitated meeting for musicians, music directors, executive directors, board chairs, other orchestra staff, and union representatives. Travel support will be provided to musicians and smaller budget orchestra administrators.
  • Inclusion Index – Offered through a partnership with Accordant Advisors, the Inclusion Index surveys will offer orchestras insight into their own organizational culture in relation to the rest of the field.
  • Audition Applicant Demographics Survey – Offered through a partnership with Acceptd and the National Alliance for Audition Support, an electronic voluntary self-identification form will provide demographic data about the current musician applicant pool.

The information session will provide more detail about each element of Inclusive Stages to help you determine what kind of participation in this program is the best next step for your orchestra. Group 1-8 orchestras will have the opportunity to participate for free in the coalition as well as in any of the data projects.

Following the information session, we will be hosting two optional and interactive Q&A sessions on August 30 at 2:30pm Eastern/11:30am Pacific and September 7 at 12:30pm Eastern/9:30am Pacific. In these sessions, you will be able to engage directly with League staff members Caen Thomason-Redus and Sam Andrew, ask questions, and/or provide initial feedback about the program.

Participation in the Q&A sessions is encouraged if you are interested in joining the Inclusive Stages coalition. We will have limited capacity for the Q&As so please sign up for them early.

Who Should Attend?

Executive directors, conductors, musicians, general managers, operations staff, board members, and anyone interested in learning more about Inclusive Stages.

Even if you can’t attend the information session live, register to receive a recording.
