Join us this January 26-27 as we return to New York City for Midwinter Managers Meeting, the League’s intensive two-day event designed for executive directors and youth orchestra lead administrators of member orchestras.
At Midwinter, you’ll meet with fellow orchestra leaders to share ideas and learn from each other. Participate in a day and a half of robust discussions, actionable presentations, and generative thinking, all tailored to the unique needs of your constituency group. Dean Erika James of the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania will join us for the General Session to discuss authentic leadership and organizational culture.

Who Should Attend?
Executive directors and youth orchestra lead administrators (executive directors, lead staff,* and/or lead artistic directors) from League member orchestras of all budget sizes.
*For youth orchestras that are part of a professional orchestra, lead staff titles may vary (ex. Manager of Youth Ensembles, Director of Education, etc.). Not sure if you qualify? E-mail member@americanorchestras.org.

About the Speaker
Erika H. James (she/her)
Dean of Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania
Erika H. James became the dean of the Wharton School on July 1, 2020. Trained as an organizational psychologist, Dean James is a leading expert on crisis leadership, workplace diversity, and management strategy.
Prior to her appointment at Wharton, Dean James was the John H. Harland Dean at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School from 2014 to 2020.
An award-winning educator, accomplished consultant, and innovative researcher, she has paved the way for women in leadership both in education and corporate America. Dean James has been instrumental in developing groundbreaking executive education programs, including the Women in Leadership program at the University of Virginia’s Darden School. Dean James serves on the boards of Morgan Stanley, The Economic Club of New York, Pomona College, and The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc. She is a sought-after thought leader whose expertise has been quoted by TheWall Street Journal, MSNBC, Bloomberg, The Washington Post, and numerous other media outlets. Her latest book is The Prepared Leader: Emerge from Any Crisis More Resilient Than Before (Wharton School Press) which she co-authored with Lynn Perry Wooten, President of Simmons University.
Event Participation Agreement and Health Protocols
By registering for and attending Midwinter Managers Meeting, you agree to the League’s event participation agreement. This includes acknowledging and understanding all risks associated with possible exposure to and contraction of COVID-19 per the League’s liability waiver.
In coordination with state and local guidelines, the League will not require masking at Midwinter Managers Meeting. If state and local guidelines change, we reserve the right to change this policy at short notice.
While masking is not required, all League events are mask-friendly and we encourage participants to wear masks as they see fit. In keeping with the League’s event participation agreement, we ask that all participants respect one another’s choices.
