Applications for the League of American Orchestras’ Student Leadership Council are now open for 2026-27!
The Student Leadership Council’s mission is to lead, advocate, and champion student member voices and ideas at the League. The council provides a platform for the organization to integrate the voices of young people into its work and build the League’s student constituency into a must-join home for college students, exposing them to the full range of orchestra careers, reimagining pathways into orchestra administration, and nurturing future audiences and volunteer leaders, as outlined in the League’s Strategic Framework 2026-2030.
We are now looking for students ready to take on a volunteer leadership role and share their knowledge and leadership skills. These leaders help us grow the student constituency, design and produce online and in-person programming, and advocate for increased visibility and representation of youth voices and perspectives.
Eligibility:
- Be a current League Student Member (FREE) or Student Professional Member ($80)
- Be currently enrolled in college or graduate school through at least December 2026
- Be available to attend Student Leadership Council online transition meetings on November 13 and December 11 from 6:00-7:00pm Eastern

- Complimentary League National Conference registration, as well as support with necessary travel expenses
- This leadership role is a great resume builder and talking point with organizations you want to work for!
Council Term: One year, starting November 2026
Commitment:
- Participate in monthly Zoom Student Leadership Council meetings. This includes online transition meetings of the 2025-26 and 2026-27 councils on November 13 and December 11 from 6:00-7:00pm Eastern
- Take on leadership roles in the League’s Student Constituency, including:
- Encouraging membership growth, advocating for benefits, creating surveys, and driving online engagement
- League National Conference student marketing and recruitment
- Developing and promoting virtual and League National Conference programming
- Attend the League’s National Conference (highly encouraged, but not required)
- Advocate for increased visibility and representation of youth voice and perspective by the League
- Serve as ambassadors in League academic and orchestral partnership expansion
- Collaborate with the League in strategically building inclusive pathways for a new generation of diverse and creative professionals to enter the orchestra field, flourish as leaders, and promote a thriving future for orchestras
