Student Leadership Council

The response form for the League of American Orchestras’ Student Leadership Council is now open for 2024-25! The council’s mission is to lead, advocate, and champion student member voices and ideas as the League supports the career entry and progression of the next generation of orchestra professionals and promotes a thriving future for orchestras

We are looking for students ready to take on a volunteer leadership role and share their knowledge and leadership skills in helping us grow the student constituency, design and produce online and in-person programming, and advocate for increased visibility and representation of youth voices and perspectives.

Eligibility: Current League Student Member (FREE) or Student Professional Member ($80) currently enrolled in an academic program in high school, college, or graduate school at the start of the council term

Council Member Benefits:

  • You will have the opportunity to tell the League what programming and membership benefits would be most helpful to you and other students and get involved in making it happen!
  • Your involvement will help create a network that can benefit you and your career progression.
  • You will get a free one-year upgrade to the Student Professional Membership, giving you access to the League’s job listings site.
  • You will receive advance access to complimentary League National Conference registration.
  • This leadership role is a great resume builder and talking point with organizations you want to work for!

Council Term: One year, with an anticipated start in September 2024

Commitment:

  • Participate in regular Zoom Student Leadership Council meetings
  • Take on leadership roles in the League’s Student Constituency, including:
    • Membership growth, benefits, surveys, and League360 engagement
    • League National Conference student marketing and recruitment
    • Virtual and League National Conference programming
  • Attend the League’s National Conference (highly encouraged, but not required)
  • Advocate for increased visibility and representation of youth voice and perspective by the League
  • Serve as ambassadors in League academic and orchestral partnership expansion
  • Collaborate with the League in strategically building inclusive pathways for a new generation of diverse and creative professionals to enter the orchestra field and flourish as leaders and promote a thriving future for orchestras

If you are interested in joining the Student Leadership Council, please submit your response by September 2, 2024 at 11:59pm Eastern. A small number of students will be selected.
