Orbert Davis’ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic presents
“Chicago Immigrant Stories” (World Premiere)
Led by Emmy Award-winning composer, trumpeter and educator, Orbert Davis, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic is a 60-member jazz symphonic orchestra presenting music that bridges jazz, classical, and other genres. The impact of this artistic mission is to bridge communities, educate the next generation of musicians, encourage cross-cultural dialogue, and expand creative practice. “ Chicago Immigrant Stories” is the seven-movement orchestral culmination of a year-long project forging a series of workshop collaborations with artists representing Chicago’s distinct immigrant communities to create a soundtrack resonating across all audiences as they comprehend what it means to be ‘American’. In addition to world music multi-instrumentalist Howard Levy, this evening’s performance will feature musicians from Chicago’s South Asian, West African, and Chinese communities.
