FAQs

Why should I come to Conference?
You might get 1,000 different answers from our 1,000 delegates! But we think the top three reasons to come are: 1) to meet, network, and learn from your peers; 2) to do your job better; 3) to know that you’re not alone – that there are others with the same goals, aspirations, and questions that you have.

Where should I stay?
The League has established a block of rooms at the Palmer House Hilton.  More information can be found on the Hotel and Transportation page.

How do I get the most out of Conference?
We jam pack three days full of learning, networking, and music. We recommend taking a look at the Conference schedule so you’re prepared for what is planned. Reading through the sessions and determining what you’d like to attend in advance is also helpful, so you’re not choosing what session to go to on the fly. Also, be sure to make some time to network with the multitude of business partners set up in the Exhibit Area. Other than that? Introduce yourself to everyone—meeting other delegates is one of the best parts of Conference.

How do I access WiFi in the Hotel?
Complimentary wireless internet access will be available in the Exhibit Area and all public spaces within the hotel. The WiFi network and password will be available at registration, and on this website once it becomes available.

What is the difference between an Elective and a Constituency Session?
Constituency Sessions are meetings of peer learning groups through which you can network with those in similar job roles in orchestras across the country. In the Constituency Sessions, meeting agendas are developed around topics that are specific to your role and/or organizational budget range. It is a great opportunity for you to meet and learn with those who relate closely to the dynamics of your role in your orchestra.

The League’s constituency groups are identified by job roles common in orchestras’ administrative staff. There are groups for artistic administrators, conductors, development staff, education/community engagement staff, executive directors, general managers/operations staff, marketing staff, musicians, trustees, public relations, volunteers, and youth orchestras/collegiate staff.

Electives are open sessions that you can pick and choose according to your interest, regardless of your job role or orchestra group. Designed to be cross-constituency learning sessions, the Elective sessions aim to offer content that applies broadly across orchestras. You can curate your own schedule of Elective sessions that interest you.

What are the Tracks and do I need to follow only one?
Tracks indicate the thematic areas of session content. For example, you will see that each Elective and Pre-Conference Seminar is associated with one of five Tracks – Artistic Vitality; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion; Engagement and Innovation; Leadership, People, Culture; and Marketing and Development.

Tracks are simply a way of organizing the sessions to give you a sense of the primary focus of each session, however, you are not required to follow just one Track during the Conference. You can mix and match any of the Elective sessions in all five Tracks to suit your interest and schedule.

What are Pre-Conference Seminars?
We know that lots of people want to make their trip to Chicago as packed with learning as possible, so for an additional fee you can arrive early and choose from one of several intensive, hands-on, learning sessions. More information about these can be found here.

Are any group registration rates available?
Yes, we offer several different registration rates based on the size of your group.  We encourage team attendance at Conference.  Don’t know which rate is best for you?  Please contact Member Relations at 646 822 4010 or member@americanorchestras.org for details.

Are the venues ADA accessible?
The Palmer House Hilton is American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible, including exhibit areas, meeting rooms, and ballrooms. Symphony Center and Millennium Park (home of the Grant Park Music Festival) are also accessible.

Is there anything else I need to know?
Just come to the Registration Area as soon as you arrive – we’ll have all your materials ready.  Registration will be located in the back of the Exhibit Hall on the 4th Floor of the hotel.

What if I have more questions?
We love questions – so bring it on! If you have questions before Conference begins, email us at member@americanorchestras.org and we’ll get right back to you. During Conference you’ll find the League staff full of answers and waiting for you at the Registration Area.

There is so much we could tell you, but you get the idea. Have fun in Chicago – we are looking forward to meeting you!
