Advancing the Arts in the Next Administration

Washington, D.C. – In anticipation of the new Obama Administration, the League has been working with the broader arts community to develop a slate of recommended actions that the White House and agency officials can take to strengthen support for the arts in communities nationwide.  In addition to covering traditional arts funding areas, including the National Endowment for the Arts and U.S. Department of Education, the slate of recommendations covers federal policies addressing:

  • International Cultural Exchange
  • National Service and the Arts (i.e. AmeriCorps)
  • Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (NCLB)
  • Nonprofit Tax Policy and Oversight
  • A Senior Administrative Position on Cultural Policy

The complete unified statement, signed to-date by 25 national arts organizations, has been presented to President-Elect Obama's transition team and is available below. The League will work in partnership with orchestras to advance the recommendations in the months to come.
